Day 1 – Feb 6, Friday | Palakkad → Kolkata

Your journey begins as the group departs from Palakkad Junction Railway Station at 12:10 AM by train.

A day on the rails unfolds through the heart of India — scenic villages, rivers, and plains passing by as excitement builds for the Eastern expedition.

Overnight on train.

At 12:30 PM, the train reaches Shalimar Railway Station — gateway to the cultural capital of India.

After check-in at the hotel and some rest, take an evening stroll through Kolkata’s vibrant streets — where colonial architecture meets the energy of modern Bengal. The aroma of cha and street food fills the air.

Overnight stay in Kolkata.

After breakfast, begin your exploration of Kolkata — a city that beautifully blends British elegance and Bengali soul.

Visit the Victoria Memorial, an architectural gem in marble; the Indian Museum, India’s oldest and grandest museum; and the Mother Teresa House, radiating peace and compassion.

Cross the iconic Howrah Bridge and visit Howrah Railway Station, one of the busiest in Asia.

In the evening, experience the buzz of Esplanade — street vendors, old bookstores, and trams that still hum with nostalgia.

Overnight stay in Kolkata.

Early morning 6:50 AM train from Kolkata to Murshidabad, once the capital of Bengal under the Nawabs. Arrive at 10:05 AM and check into a local guesthouse or heritage hotel.

Murshidabad is a living museum — a blend of Mughal elegance, Nawabi culture, and Bengal’s riverine beauty.

Explore the majestic Hazarduari Palace, a thousand-door architectural marvel, and the grand Nizamat Imambara, one of India’s largest.

Visit Katra Masjid, Tripolia Gate, and nearby rural villages where silk weaving and terracotta craftsmanship still thrive.

Evening board the overnight train to Siliguri, gateway to the Himalayas.

Overnight on train.

Arrive at Siliguri by morning and begin the spectacular road journey to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The winding route passes through lush valleys, sparkling rivers, and terraced tea gardens.

By afternoon, check into your hotel and rest.

Evening walk at MG Marg, the beautifully maintained pedestrian street of Gangtok — lined with cafés, souvenir shops, and vibrant local life.

Overnight stay in Gangtok.

After breakfast, embark on a full-day high-altitude adventure.

Drive through winding snow-clad roads to visit Changu (Tsomgo) Lake (12,400 ft) — a serene glacial lake surrounded by snow peaks.

Continue to the Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, a shrine dedicated to the legendary Indian soldier of Sikkim.

Weather permitting, proceed further to the Nathula Pass (14,140 ft) on the Indo-China border — one of India’s most scenic and historic mountain passes.

Return to Gangtok by evening. A relaxing walk again at MG Marg concludes the day.

Overnight stay in Gangtok.

After breakfast, depart for Darjeeling, the “Queen of the Hills.”

The drive through lush forests, mountain curves, and tea estates offers stunning Himalayan views.
By evening, stroll along Mall Road, explore local cafés, and enjoy the chill mountain air.

Overnight stay in Darjeeling.

Rise early to witness one of nature’s greatest spectacles — sunrise over the Kanchenjunga Range from Tiger Hill (8,400 ft).

After breakfast, visit Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop War Memorial, and Darjeeling Railway Station, part of the UNESCO-listed Himalayan Toy Train route.

Enjoy the charm of Ghum Railway Station, the highest in India.

Evening free for leisure walk and souvenir shopping at Mall Road.

Overnight stay in Darjeeling.

After breakfast, begin the descent from Darjeeling to Siliguri. Enjoy your last glimpse of the Himalayas through mist and pine.

In the afternoon, board your train from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station for the return journey to Kerala.

Overnight on train.

Full day on the train — time to share photos, stories, and reflections from the Eastern Himalayas.

Overnight on train.

Arrive in Kerala by afternoon, carrying with you the essence of Bengal’s heritage and the tranquility of Sikkim’s peaks.

The journey concludes, but the memories stay forever — of tea-scented mornings, prayer flags fluttering in the cold breeze, and the warmth of people across India’s northeast frontier.
