The journey begins in the stillness of the night as we board the train from Thrissur Railway Station at 1:10 am. As the train rolls through the landscapes of South and Eastern India.
We reach Bhubaneswar Railway Station by 6:45 am. After a refreshing breakfast, we head to Puri, a city known as one of the Char Dhams in Hinduism. The scenic 65 km drive (approx. 1.5 hours) offers glimpses of rural Odisha’s beauty.
Post fresh-up, we proceed to Konark Museum, where ancient sculptures and artifacts reveal the architectural brilliance of the Sun Temple.
As the evening unfolds, we visit the majestic Konark Sun Temple—a 13th-century architectural marvel built by King Narasimhadeva I. The temple, shaped like a colossal chariot, stands as a symbol of India’s cultural and engineering excellence. A peaceful night walk near the illuminated temple completes the day.
Overnight stay at Puri.
After breakfast, we explore Raghurajpur, a living heritage village just 14 km from Puri. Known for Pattachitra art, palm leaf engravings, and Gotipua dance (precursor to Odissi), the village lets us witness the soul of Odisha’s folk tradition.
By evening, we head to Puri Beach, where the Bay of Bengal’s waves wash away the day’s tiredness. The golden sands, camel rides, and sunset views are a serene treat.

Our day begins with a visit to Pipili Craft Village, famous for its colorful appliqué handicrafts. We then explore the Odisha Tribal Museum in Bhubaneswar, offering deep insights into the life, culture, and traditions of the state’s tribal communities.
Next, we visit the Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, just outside Bhubaneswar. These rock-cut caves, dating back to the 2nd century BCE, once served as monasteries for Jain monks under King Kharavela’s rule. Their inscriptions and carvings tell stories of devotion and ascetic life.
A walk through the evening market lets us experience local flavors and crafts.
Return and stay at Puri.
After breakfast and check-out, we bid farewell to Puri. Our train departs from Bhubaneswar Railway Station at 8:50 am. The journey home offers time to reflect on the stories, spirituality, and heritage we’ve encountered.
By 1:00 pm, we reach Thrissur Railway Station, carrying with us unforgettable memories of Odisha’s sacred lands and timeless traditions.
