Day 1 – Thursday, January 1: Arrival at the Lake City, Udaipur

The year begins with a journey into the royal heart of Rajasthan. We take the 7:10 AM flight from Cochin, connecting via Hyderabad, and by 2:45 PM, we arrive at the Udaipur Airport. The moment we step into this city of lakes, white marble palaces, and timeless charm, the winter air carries a sense of calm.

After transfer to the hotel, the evening is for leisure — perhaps a gentle walk by Lake Pichola or a quiet sunset from the ghats, watching reflections of palaces on the shimmering water.

Overnight stay in Udaipur.

After breakfast, we set out to discover Udaipur, known as both the City of Lakes and the White City. The day begins at the majestic City Palace, a sprawling complex of courtyards, balconies, and royal halls overlooking Lake Pichola. We visit the Bagore Ki Haveli, known for its artistic heritage, and the tranquil Saheliyon Ki Bari, the garden of royal maidens.

Later, we explore the Vintage Car Museum, a treat for automobile enthusiasts, and the rustic Shilpgram, a craft village alive with Rajasthani art and color. As evening falls, the sun sets over Lake Pichola, painting the city in hues of gold.

Overnight stay in Udaipur.

We begin early, driving through the rugged Aravallis to Ajmer, a city known for its spiritual heart — the Ajmer Sharif Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, where devotion transcends faith and language. After offering prayers and a soulful pause, we continue the road journey to Jaipur, the Pink City.

By evening, Jaipur welcomes us with its vibrant bazaars, street food aromas, and the soft glow of pink sandstone under winter skies.

Overnight stay in Jaipur.

A royal day unfolds as we climb the ancient ramparts of Amber Fort, where elephant motifs and mirror palaces echo Rajput valor. Later, we pause before the Hawa Mahal, the “Palace of Winds,” its honeycomb façade shimmering in sunlight. We visit the elegant City Palace and the serene Jal Mahal, floating in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

As dusk falls, we ascend Nahargarh Fort for a sweeping view of Jaipur city glowing under a winter sky.

That night, we board our overnight train or bus to Jaisalmer, carrying memories of Rajasthan’s royal soul.

By morning, the desert sun rises over Jaisalmer, the Golden City. We explore the living Jaisalmer Fort, its honey-gold sandstone walls glowing like fire. Gadisar Lake mirrors the city’s stillness, and Bada Bagh tells stories of royal cenotaphs standing silently against the desert wind.

By evening, we drive to the Sam Sand Dunes, where camel rides, local folk dance, and Rajasthani music unfold under a thousand stars. The night ends around a campfire in a desert camp, wrapped in starlit silence.

Overnight stay in Jaisalmer (Desert Camp).

After breakfast, we take a morning stroll through Jaisalmer’s narrow lanes before setting out on a 160 km drive to Barmer, a land where the desert meets the border. Along the way, we stop by a border village near the India–Pakistan line, catching a glimpse of life on the edge of two worlds.

By night, we begin our return road journey toward Jodhpur, the Blue City.

Overnight in transit.

Morning in Jodhpur begins with royal grandeur. We visit the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, towering above the blue houses of the old city, and the elegant Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph glowing in sunlight.

At Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi, we pause by the ancient stepwell — a quiet corner of history. The Umaid Bhawan Palace stands as a symbol of modern royalty, blending heritage with elegance. Evening strolls through the Ghanta Ghar Market (Sadar Bazaar) bring the colors, crafts, and flavors of Jodhpur alive.
Overnight stay in Jodhpur.

After breakfast, we pack the last of our royal memories and transfer to Jodhpur Airport for the 5:30 PM flight to Cochin via Hyderabad.

By 10:40 PM, we arrive back home — hearts full of colors, songs, and the golden dust of Rajasthan’s timeless tales
